The Wahoo ELEMNT Roam 3...
The Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 sets new standards in our bike computer test. With improved navigation, a clear colour touchscreen and battery life of up to 25 hours, the Roam V3 provides everything demanding cyclists need. Particularly impressive is its ease of use, seamlessly combined with capable technology, from precise map integration to versatile connectivity.
The Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 is definitely among the best bike computers for riders seeking a well-judged combination of ease of use and powerful technology. Its clear, easy-to-read colour touchscreen is a real highlight, and battery life of up to 25 hours makes it ideal for long rides. Performance-minded cyclists particularly appreciate its precise navigation and straightforward operation, seamlessly combined with ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity.
Naturally, the Roam V3 has weaknesses too. Map integration could be more detailed in places, and it is not quite as feature-rich as some competitors, particularly for specialist training or fitness metrics. It also lacks automatic crash detection, a standard feature on some other devices. At around 400 euros, however, it is a good alternative for cyclists who want to spend less and prioritise simple, reliable navigation.

At 9.6cm long and weighing 107 grams, the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 is one of the lighter bike computers on the market. It is considerably lighter than the Garmin Edge 1050 or Elemnt Ace while still delivering excellent performance. The Roam V3 feels well balanced on the bike and is ideal for riders seeking a compact, lightweight device without compromising functionality.

Rating
Navigation in Our Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 Test:
Navigation is significantly improved over the previous model. Particularly noticeable are the faster response and more precise route guidance, which works reliably on complex routes and off-road rides. The display now presents maps more clearly, with greater contrast and improved colours that enhance readability in different lighting conditions.

Improved route planning is a major advantage. Integration with Komoot and other route planners is smoother and faster, allowing planned routes to transfer directly to the device without delay.
Turn-by-turn navigation has also improved. Alongside the usual directions, there are now advance warnings of difficult junctions or narrow roads, making navigation safer and less stressful.

Our ROAM V3 test also shows that the device calculates an alternative route extremely quickly when you leave the planned route. Some diversions can be less intuitive, however, such as when it tries to return you to the original turning point instead of choosing a more direct route. In general, a new route appears within just a few seconds.
Testing the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 Display
The touchscreen is a genuine new feature on the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3, and you notice it immediately. Compared with other modern bike computers, the Roam V3 stands out for its 2.7-inch transflective TFT display. Its 240 x 400-pixel resolution provides clear, readable maps and data. The transflective design reflects ambient light to remain more readable in direct sunlight.
However, it does not quite match the brilliance and clarity of the transmissive LCD displays found on some competitors. Brightness is more than adequate across different conditions, although particularly strong sunlight can occasionally cause slight reflections.

The touchscreen's speed and precision are particular strengths. It responds almost as quickly as a modern smartphone, making operation on a ride very pleasant. The Roam V3 interface is clear and intuitive without being unnecessarily cluttered. Important functions are always quickly accessible without getting lost in menus.
Overall, the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 delivered a solid display in our test, entirely adequate for everyday use even if it does not quite match the brightness and brilliance of the latest LCD technology. Intuitive operation and thoughtful technology still make it an excellent choice for cyclists seeking a reliable, readable display. If a brilliant display is your priority, consider the Garmin EDGE 1050 or, even better in my opinion, the Hammerhead Karoo 3 .
Strava Live Segments and Summits
Integration of Strava Live Segments and Summits has improved on the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3, although it has not been fundamentally redesigned. The basic functionality remains the same: users compete in real time against their own best times or those of friends on live segments. Notifications are improved, however, and segments are displayed more smoothly during rides.

Wahoo has particularly improved access to and presentation of Summits. Segments and best times are quicker to access, and the display has been adjusted to show live-segment results more clearly. Comparison data and split times stand out more, helping you monitor performance while riding.
Overall, there is no radical redesign, but small, worthwhile improvements to how Strava Live Segments and Summits are displayed and operated make the experience noticeably smoother and more intuitive.
The New Speaker
Unlike its predecessor's simple beeper, the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 now has a proper speaker. This enables spoken navigation instructions and notifications, allowing you to hear important directions or live-segment alerts clearly without headphones.
Volume and sound quality have improved, so announcements remain understandable in wind and at higher speeds. The speaker stays compact and does not affect the device's size.
Integrated Bike Bell!
A practical surprise on the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 is its integrated bike bell, something not every bike computer offers in this form. Unlike the simple beeps of many competitors, the Roam V3 provides a clear, pleasant ringing tone. This makes it much nicer to use, particularly in city traffic or on race courses when you want to attract attention without constantly searching the display with your finger.
Unlike the Garmin Edge 1050, the Roam V3 bell is directly accessible in the menu without searching for a small icon. A single tap on the display activates it, making it much easier to use while riding. There is no cumbersome activation and double tapping to produce the sound: it is a quick, practical solution that makes the Roam V3 more user-friendly in traffic.
There is one small drawback: the volume is not quite as high as on some other devices, so the bell can be less noticeable in particularly noisy surroundings. Overall, though, straightforward operation and access are a clear advantage over more complex solutions.

Weight
The Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM 3 weighed 107 grams in our test. We weighed it ourselves rather than taking the figure from the manufacturer's specifications. This keeps the bike computer pleasantly light and well suited to road and gravel setups where minimal additional cockpit weight matters.

The New Wahoo App
Our Wahoo Elemnt Roam test shows that the new Wahoo app brings several significant improvements over its predecessor. The interface has been completely redesigned and is now more modern, intuitive and organised. Moving between functions is much easier, making it more accessible to everyone from beginners to professionals. Core functions such as managing routes, syncing activities and connecting devices are now quicker and smoother to access.
Seamless integration with third-party apps is a major advantage. Although the old version already connected with Komoot, Strava and similar services, syncing is now faster and more reliable. Activities upload to platforms such as Strava or Komoot almost in real time, a major convenience for many cyclists. Komoot route planning has improved too: planned routes can now transfer directly to the Wahoo Roam V3 without extra steps, greatly simplifying planning and navigation.

Performance and training analysis have also improved significantly. The new Wahoo app lets you manage rides and analyse detailed performance metrics and progress in one place. TrainingPeaks integration is smoother too, allowing personalised training plans to transfer directly to the Roam V3. This is a major convenience for performance-minded riders seeking to improve further.
There are a few smaller challenges, however. Some users report that activity syncing is very occasionally slower than before, especially with several devices connected. This is not the norm and may improve with future updates. Another small drawback is the lack of offline access to some features that were easier to use in the old app, such as planning and retrieving routes without an internet connection. This is somewhat restricted in the new version, particularly with Komoot when no data connection is available.
Overall, however, the new Wahoo app has clearly progressed in most areas. It is more functional, easier to use and better connected with other fitness platforms, making it a valuable addition for Wahoo users. Minor restrictions in offline use or syncing very large amounts of data do not weigh heavily overall, particularly as most improvements substantially simplify the workflow.
Redesigned User Interface
Another significant improvement in our Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 test is the redesigned device interface. Wahoo has worked hard to simplify and optimise it, making the ELEMNT Roam V3 more user-friendly and intuitive. The result is much quicker, easier operation while riding, particularly useful for cyclists who want to focus on the road rather than struggle with complicated menus.

The new interface uses a clear, uncluttered structure with important functions immediately accessible. Key data such as speed, heart rate, cadence and navigation are easier to customise and display without lengthy setup. Widgets and menus are arranged more logically, so riders do not have to search for the information they need.
The redesigned interface makes navigation and route planning particularly smooth on the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3. Map view and route planning menus take only a few clicks to access and clearly show the route. This simplifies navigation on long rides or unfamiliar terrain, making the ride much less stressful.
Connectivity is another major advantage of the redesigned interface. Wahoo has simplified Bluetooth and ANT+ integration, enabling faster, more stable connections with sensors, smartwatches and other devices. The touchscreen also responds more precisely and quickly, significantly improving operation while riding and taking overall ELEMNT Roam V3 performance to a new level.
Training and fitness metric settings have also been improved, keeping important data visible at a glance and available for real-time monitoring. Display customisation is more flexible, allowing you to show exactly the metrics and information most relevant to your ride.
Overall, the redesigned Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 interface makes the device more user-friendly and efficient. Faster access to key functions, improved navigation and better connectivity make it an excellent choice for riders who value straightforward operation and modern technology. Anyone seeking a highly capable yet intuitive bike computer will find what they need in the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3.
Music and Device Controls
One practical new feature of the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 is the ability to control different devices directly from the bike computer. Music controls make it easy to operate Spotify or Apple Music while riding without taking out your smartphone. Playback can be controlled on the display: skip tracks, adjust volume or pause the music, perfect for an enjoyable ride.

You can also manage other connected devices, including radar, lights and even your GoPro, directly from the Roam V3. This lets you adjust the lighting or start your GoPro camera without taking your hands off the handlebar. Garmin Varia Radar is supported too, helping warn you of approaching vehicles, all conveniently through the ELEMNT Roam V3.
Controlling Garmin Varia Radar and Light
For me, one of the coolest Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 features is controlling the Garmin Varia Radar and its light directly from the Roam. Particularly useful is that the light activates automatically when a vehicle approaches. This saves substantial Garmin Varia Radar battery power and extends runtime. The feature makes riding safer and more convenient, letting you focus on the route.
Update, 17.06.2025: The Wahoo Trackr Radar also works perfectly with the Wahoo Elemnt Roam V3. We experienced no dropouts with the new Wahoo radar during testing, whereas the Garmin occasionally loses connection. I noticed this particularly near speed cameras. Let me know in the comments whether you have noticed the same thing.
No Wind Display
One particularly disappointing finding in my Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM V3 test was that, despite its extensive features, it lacks a seemingly simple display important to many aero-focused riders: wind direction. Devices such as the Garmin Edge 1050 or Hammerhead Karoo 3 can show current wind data through a weather app, but the ROAM V3 has no comparable option. Riders who need precise wind information must choose a competitor or the Wahoo ACE with its integrated wind sensor.
Who Is the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 For?
The Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 is perfect for cyclists seeking easy operation, precise navigation and relatively long battery life. It suits extended rides or demanding off-road adventures, but is less suited to bikepacking. Riders prioritising solid performance and simple, effective navigation will find a good all-rounder here. It is excellent for everyday and performance-minded cyclists who want a reliable, straightforward solution.
For those needing more fitness features or a wider range of training metrics, the Garmin Edge 1050 may be the better choice. Particularly ambitious cyclists focused on detailed performance data will find a broader feature set there.
For bikepackers, the WAHOO ELEMNT ACE is the best choice
Anyone who, like me, wants a standout display will find it in the Hammerhead Karoo 3 . Its impressive 3.2-inch display and outstanding interface make it my personal favourite for screen quality and user experience. Riders seeking brilliant image quality and advanced navigation will not be disappointed by the Karoo 3. For a balanced package of performance, navigation and ease of use, however, the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 remains one of the best options.
Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 Review Verdict
The Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 is a thoughtfully designed, capable bike computer that particularly stands out for its ease of use and range of practical features. It impressed in many areas during our test and offers excellent value when its technical features and high build quality are considered.
Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 Strengths
Improved navigation is one of the Roam V3's outstanding features. Optimised maps, faster route planning and turn-by-turn guidance make it easier and more precise to use. Better Komoot integration is particularly beneficial, transferring routes to the device in moments. Display quality and operation have improved considerably too. The clear, generally readable 2.7-inch TFT display is pleasant to use, even in direct sunlight.
Another highlight is the new speaker, which makes spoken instructions clearly audible, a definite improvement over the previous model's simple beeper. Navigation guidance and notifications remain understandable even at higher speeds and with wind noise.
The integrated bike bell is a practical addition that makes the device particularly attractive for city traffic. It is easy to operate and, unlike on some other devices, is not hidden away, allowing quick use while riding.
Direct control of external devices such as Garmin Varia Radar, lights and GoPro makes the Roam V3 particularly convenient and versatile. Automatic control of the Garmin Varia Radar when a vehicle approaches adds safety and makes riding more pleasant.
Battery life of up to 25 hours and simple syncing with third-party apps such as Strava and Komoot complete a package that makes the Roam V3 a strong bike computer contender.
Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 Weaknesses
Although the Roam V3 excels in many areas, it has some minor weaknesses. Some users find display readability slightly limited in very direct sunlight. Map integration could also be more detailed in places, especially for riders requiring very precise information. Compared with Garmin or Hammerhead models, the Roam V3 may lag somewhat in display brilliance and brightness.
The Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 also lacks automatic crash detection, now standard on other devices, which some users may miss. Offline functions in the new Wahoo app are also somewhat more restricted than in the old version.
As an aero enthusiast, what bothers me most about the ROAM V3, and Wahoo navigation devices generally apart from the ACE, is the inability to display wind direction through something like a weather app, as the Karoo 3 or Edge 1050 can.
The New Wahoo App
The redesigned Wahoo app brings numerous improvements that significantly speed up device connection and syncing. Seamless integration with Komoot, Strava and other fitness platforms is particularly fast and reliable now. Users can transfer training data and routes almost in real time. Some minor limitations remain in offline use and syncing large amounts of data, although these occur only rarely.
Summary
The Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3 is among the best options on the market for combining user-friendly operation with powerful technology. Improved navigation, ergonomic design, long battery life and new features such as the speaker and integrated bell make it an ideal choice for cyclists needing a dependable device for everyday use and long rides alike.
Riders who value precise navigation, easy operation and good third-party app integration will find a faithful companion in the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam V3. Its straightforward handling and useful extras justify the price of around 400 euros. Although some features could still improve, it delivers a very strong overall performance.
