The Wahoo ELEMNT ACE is a modern GPS bike computer aimed particularly at performance-focused riders, offering a high-quality 2.7-inch colour display, innovative wind sensing and touchscreen operation. Compared with more compact models such as the BOLT V3, the ACE offers more screen space, which is especially useful for interval training, maps and live data fields. A combination of buttons and touchscreen provides particularly intuitive control, even while riding.

With battery life of up to 30 hours, multi-GNSS navigation, Strava Live Segments, music controls and real-time wind analysis, the ELEMNT ACE is aimed at ambitious cyclists who want to analyse and optimise their performance precisely. The review shows that it performs particularly well in training control, depth of data and integration with third-party platforms such as TrainingPeaks or Wahoo SYSTM. The one drawback: features such as crash detection or voice navigation are missing.

At around 600 euros, the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE is not an entry-level device, but it offers a strong combination of technology, training features and innovative wind feedback – ideal for ambitious riders who want more than basic data.

With a total weight of 208 g (including the mount) and dimensions of 125 x 70 x 20 mm (4.9 x 2.8 x 0.8 inches), the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE is not one of the lightest devices, but it offers a generous 3.8-inch colour display (9.7 cm) with excellent readability. Its combination of a robust casing, large screen and modern design makes it ideal for riders who value comfort, a clear overview and high-end functionality without giving up a sporty, aerodynamic profile.

Display & Controls

The display is one of the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE’s standout features and marks a major step forward compared with earlier Wahoo models. It is a 3.8-inch TFT colour touchscreen with a resolution of 480 × 720 pixels and support for 16 million colours. This makes the image particularly sharp and vivid, significantly improving readability and orientation, whether you are viewing maps, performance data or navigation instructions. However, the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE’s display does not match the HAMMERHEAD KAROO 3 .

An  ambient light sensor  automatically adjusts the display brightness to the lighting conditions. This provides excellent readability both in direct sunlight and in darker surroundings. The  touchscreen interface  responds precisely and allows smooth, intuitive operation, for example when zooming into maps or switching data views – ideal while riding too.

The display is protected against scratches and impacts by  Gorilla Glass , which provides high durability. The interface lets you customise and enlarge important data fields, a benefit for athletes who can only glance briefly at their figures while riding.

Overall, the ELEMNT ACE display offers a combination of  size, sharpness, rich colours and functionality usually found only in high-end smartphones – ideal for ambitious cyclists who value a clear overview, precision and modern design.

The New Wind Sensor

The Wahoo ELEMNT ACE features an innovative wind sensor that allows cyclists to analyse the wind’s effect in real time. An integrated pressure sensor on the front continuously measures airspeed by detecting the air pressure created as you ride. By comparing this with your actual riding speed, the ACE identifies whether a tailwind, headwind or drafting is affecting your ride.

The ACE distinguishes between three wind zones to help riders assess the current situation at a glance. AirBoost indicates a tailwind or effective drafting: airspeed is lower than riding speed, making for particularly efficient riding. In the Neutral Air zone, conditions are almost windless, with airspeed and riding speed largely matching. AirDrag, by contrast, indicates a headwind: airspeed is higher than riding speed, creating extra resistance. These zones appear on the display in colour in real time, keeping the wind’s influence visible throughout the ride.

This display helps you recognise wind conditions immediately and adjust your riding accordingly. After the ride, the Wahoo app provides a detailed analysis, including the proportion of time spent in each wind zone. This allows you to refine your drafting and performance strategies. The Wahoo ELEMNT ACE’s wind sensor is therefore a real benefit for anyone who wants to train and ride more precisely in real-world conditions.

Post-Ride Wind Analysis

The innovative wind sensor analysis in the redesigned Wahoo app was impressive in the Wahoo Elemnt Ace review. After a ride, a colour-coded map clearly shows when and where there was a tailwind (green), a headwind (orange/red) or neutral wind (blue). The app also provides precise statistics: the percentage of time spent in each wind zone and the exact duration in minutes. An exciting addition for anyone wanting to analyse their performance in more detail.

Digital Bike Bell

The Wahoo ELEMNT ACE has an integrated digital bike bell that produces a clear ‘ding-ding’ through its built-in speaker. During an active outdoor ride, you can activate the bell by tapping the bottom of the screen or double-tapping the main data page. However, the bell does not work in the map view, to prevent accidental activation. Its volume is fixed and independent of the general audio settings.

Navigation & Connectivity

With dual-band GPS, a gyroscope, a compass and an accelerometer, the ELEMNT ACE provides precise navigation. Spoken turn instructions and an improved map display make finding your way easier. Wahoo app integration allows straightforward route planning and synchronisation.

Komoot Route Planning

Routes synced with Komoot can be transferred easily to the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE, as well as to the ELEMNT BOLT V3 or ELMENT ROAM V3. Once Komoot is linked to your Wahoo account, your planned rides appear automatically in the Wahoo app. From there, you can transfer your chosen route directly to your device in just a few clicks and set off straight away. It could hardly be easier!

Battery Life: Ideal for Bikepackers

The manufacturer claims battery life of  up to 30 hours of GPS use  under ideal conditions, such as using the backlight for 5 seconds. In practice, many users report  average battery life of between 21 and 30 hours, depending on display settings, GPS use and connected sensors.

With automatic brightness and normal use, consumption is around  4–6% per hour, allowing real-world battery life of  16–25 hours .
In the power-saving 5-second backlight mode, figures of around  3–4% per hour  are realistic, equivalent to  24 to 30 hours of battery life.
Individual reports mention up to  28 hours, even with connected sensors such as a power meter, heart rate strap and radar in mixed riding conditions.

The effect of sensors:

The number and type of connected sensors, such as speed, cadence, power and aero sensors, have  virtually no effect  on battery consumption. Navigation and live tracking also have  only a minimal effect on the battery. The main factors are  display brightness  and how long the  backlight stays on.

Mounting on Aero Handlebars

The Wahoo ELEMNT ACE impresses with innovative features such as the integrated wind sensor and user-friendly operation. However, battery life and weight may be drawbacks for some users. Compared with the Garmin Edge 1050, the ACE offers a larger display and a lower price, while the Garmin EDGE 1050 offers significantly more features.

Training and Interval Training

The Wahoo ELEMNT ACE makes structured training easy, with interval sessions in particular being quick and flexible to start. Several options are available to help you complete your workout exactly as planned.

If you have already loaded workouts onto your device, you can select and start them directly on the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE. They must have been synced beforehand. Alternatively, the Wahoo ELEMNT app, available for iOS and Android, lets you transfer workouts from various sources to your device conveniently, whether they are individual sessions or ready-made training plans.

Automatic synchronisation with third-party services such as TrainingPeaks or Today’s Plan makes things even more convenient. Once you have connected your account to the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE, new training plans are automatically loaded onto the device. This keeps you ready to go without any extra steps. Whether on the bike or in the gym, the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE keeps you in control of your interval training.

You do not necessarily need Wahoo SYSTM to do interval training with the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE. The device also works easily with other platforms such as TrainingPeaks, Zwift or Garmin Connect. Nevertheless, Wahoo SYSTM offers several attractive benefits: FTP-based training plans, extensive video workouts and seamless synchronisation with the ACE make training particularly convenient. Anyone who values structured programmes and performance assessment will find a comprehensive package here, although the service requires a subscription (around €14.99 per month or €129.99 per year).

The ELEMNT ACE itself has no ongoing costs. You can use it immediately after purchase and import or create workouts in various ways. Alongside TrainingPeaks, where you can create your own workouts or buy ready-made plans and sync them automatically, manually created .fit or .zwo files are also supported, for example from tools such as TrainerDay or ERGdb. These files can be transferred easily to your device through the Wahoo ELEMNT app.

Alternatively, you can train freely: use the ACE’s lap buttons to record manual intervals. This is ideal when you are riding without a fixed plan but still want to include structured periods of effort.

During training, the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE displays a wide selection of customisable data fields. These include:

  • Current Power (Watts)
  • Target Range (e.g. 240–260 W)
  • Heart Rate
  • Time in Interval / Until Next Interval
  • Cadence
  • TSS (Training Stress Score)
  • IF (Intensity Factor)
  • Graphical Display of Training Progress

This visual and audio presentation makes interval training particularly intuitive and motivating, especially when the effort gets tough.

User experiences with the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE are consistently positive. Many praise its ease of use, as planned workouts are recognised automatically and start without unnecessary steps. Users also appreciate the clear data fields, precise GPS, power and cadence measurement, and seamless integration with third-party platforms such as TrainingPeaks or Today’s Plan.

One small drawback: anyone wanting to create particularly complex workouts directly on the device will still encounter limitations. External tools or Wahoo SYSTM are recommended for this, although, as mentioned, they are not essential.

Strava Live Segments

The new Wahoo bike computer also brings updated Strava Live Segments to the device, a real highlight for ambitious riders. Its direct Strava connection provides live updates on upcoming segments during your ride, including a countdown and real-time comparisons with your personal best, the KOM/QOM and your friends’ performance. In our Wahoo Elemnt Ace review, we found the large, high-contrast touchscreen particularly useful. The ACE displays all the relevant data clearly, even at speed or in direct sunlight. This lets you see exactly how you are doing on a segment and push harder to beat your personal best. A real benefit for anyone wanting to get the most out of their performance.

Riding Strava Live Segments becomes a real highlight with the Wahoo ELEMNT ACE: you can mark your favourite segments and display only those on the device. As a segment approaches, the ACE gives an audible alert, perfect when you are pedalling hard. During the segment, you see in real time how you compare with your PR, the KOM/QOM or the next target, complete with a countdown and a clear target graphic.

Verdict

Our WAHOO ELEMNT ACE review shows that this is an extremely powerful bike computer, impressing with innovative features such as the wind sensor and a user-friendly design. The ACE is an excellent choice for cyclists who value precise data and modern technology. Bikepackers in particular can benefit from its long battery life. Buyers should bear its greater weight and larger dimensions in mind. In a direct comparison, the Garmin Edge 1050 offers some additional features, but at a higher price.
