My Introduction to the World of MyWhosh

I discovered MyWhoosh after Zwift raised its fees again. Looking for a free but high-quality alternative, I found MyWhoosh the perfect solution. I was particularly fascinated by the Sunday Race Club: there is prize money in every category, making competition exciting for everyone. Knowing that every rider genuinely has a chance to win something, regardless of performance level, is hugely motivating. I am also impressed by how fair the races are. Although almost everyone rides from home, cheating is virtually impossible. That creates genuine, honest competition, exactly what makes MyWhoosh special to me. More on that later...

MyWhoosh is a free virtual cycling platform where you can use a smart trainer at home to ride realistic routes around the world. You can train alone, complete structured workouts or enter exciting online races. The platform offers detailed performance data, realistic graphics and regular events such as the Sunday Race Club, where you can even win prize money. MyWhoosh thus combines training, enjoyment and competition in a unique way.

The Equipment You Actually Need

Entering MyWhoosh races with prize money requires a solid basic setup: an approved smart trainer or smart bike, a heart rate strap *(a chest strap, not optical sensors or sports watches), and a power meter as a second power source to verify your actual output. I use these power meter pedals: >Check availability on Amazon* This is mandatory to prevent cheating, for example using e-bikes. A stable internet connection is also needed for reliable data transmission. It is important to calibrate the smart trainer correctly before every test.

For categories 2 to 6, common smart trainers such as the Wahoo Kickr Core, Tacx Neo*, Elite Justo or similar models are approved. In category 1, only the most accurate devices are allowed, such as the Wahoo KICKR V5* or Wahoo KICKR V6*, Wahoo Kickr Bike, Tacx Neo 2T* or Elite Justo 2*. These deliver particularly precise power data, which is crucial for fair racing. It all gets rather expensive... but now there is professional cycling in your living room!

I have personally tested both the Wahoo Kickr Core and the Trackr Heart Rate chest strap and can recommend both without reservation. They are reliable, easy to set up and provide accurate data, especially important for the Power Passport Test and racing on MyWhoosh.

What Is the Power Passport Test?

The Power Passport Test is a performance test that verifies your riding data on MyWhoosh. It ensures that reported power figures are genuine, helping keep racing fair. The test includes several effort phases in which your output is analysed closely. It also includes measuring height and body weight to verify all your details.

To prepare, I set out everything I needed: a folding ruler to measure my height, a standard scale for body weight and, of course, plenty of water for the efforts. I filmed everything using my GoPro Hero 12 on a tripod to document height and weight clearly. I also filmed the weigh-in on my phone, then edited both videos into one clip to make the figures easier to see.

The requirements are strict: MyWhoosh checks the data closely, particularly the authenticity of power and heart rate figures. Manipulation is virtually impossible. My personal impression is that the test is genuinely demanding and asks everything of you, a true all-out experience. You definitely need a rest day afterwards, but that is exactly what makes it worthwhile. It ensures that MyWhoosh races remain fair and honest.

My Power Passport Test on MyWhoosh – How My Verification Went

The Power Passport Test is the crucial step towards official verification and permission to race on MyWhoosh. Its aim is to ensure that all performance data is genuine and conditions are fair.

I filmed the entire test with my GoPro Hero 12 on a tripod, connected to a power bank and recording in 2K so it would keep running without overheating. The video shows everything: the television, the trainer, my road bike and, of course, me.

First, I measured my height. I taped a sheet of paper to the wall, marked my height and used a folding ruler to measure from the floor to the mark. I then held the ruler directly in front of the camera so the measurement was clearly readable.

I then used my iPhone to document the entire setup: the Tacx Neo 2T, road bike, fan and my second power meter, Garmin Rally pedals. I activated the pedals, calibrated them in the Garmin Connect app and showed the result to the recording GoPro. As the Tacx Neo 2T needs no calibration, I could skip that step for the trainer.

Next, I opened Date and Time in Safari on my iPhone, refreshed the current time and date and held it up to the camera. Then it was time to ride: shoes on, MyWhoosh open, smart trainer, heart rate strap and power meter connected, then start the test workout under Workout → Testing → Power Passport. An additional screen recording is worthwhile if everything is not visible in the shot.

After around an hour, the test was complete. I weighed myself straight afterwards. First I filmed the underside of the scale, then placed a 12kg kettlebell on it to demonstrate accuracy. I then weighed myself, followed by myself holding the kettlebell, filming everything on both GoPro and iPhone to rule out any manipulation.

Finally, I edited all the videos together in CapCut and uploaded the result to YouTube as unlisted. I then registered for the Sunday Race Club – Men Qualifier Race in the MyWhoosh events section (the Women Qualifier Race for women) and completed the Pre Verification Form.

Just 4 days later, confirmation arrived: verified and ready to race in category 5! With the start list and category assignment, I could officially enter the Sunday Race Club.

The effort may seem considerable, but it ensures genuine performance, fairness and equal chances for every rider. That is exactly what makes MyWhoosh special.

Race Day at the MyWhoosh Sunday Race Club – Pure Adrenaline!

At last, Sunday Race Club race day! My heart rate rises as soon as I enter the virtual lobby. The start list fills up, riders from around the world check their connections and calibrate their trainers one last time. The countdown runs on screen, and the tension is palpable.

Category 6 starts first, followed by the other categories at 5-minute intervals. Each group has its own race suited to its performance level. Whatever your category, however, the excitement is the same. As the countdown ticks through the final seconds, the energy explodes.

Sunday Race Club MyWhoosh - Category 5 Countdown and Start

The start is brutally hard, from zero to full gas. Everyone wants to stay near the front and nobody wants to lose contact. The pace is high, heart rate shoots up immediately and it quickly becomes clear that this is serious racing. You fight for every second in the slipstream while MyWhoosh broadcasts the race live on its official YouTube channel.

An especially exciting option is joining voluntarily over Zoom. With a little luck, you may even appear live in the stream, right in the middle of the race, as thousands watch worldwide. The virtual race becomes almost a real live event, complete with faces, sweat and pure passion.

Being part of this international competition feels incredible. Your legs burn and the sweat flows, yet you want only one thing: to hang on. Surviving the high pace rewards you with a genuine racing experience, intense, honest and full of adrenaline.

This is modern cycling: the MyWhoosh Sunday Race Club, harder, more real and more exciting than you might expect.

Prize Money at the MyWhoosh Sunday Race Club – Pure Motivation!

The attractive prize money is undoubtedly a major draw of the MyWhoosh Sunday Race Club. Unlike many other platforms, it offers real cash prizes in every category, from beginners to the elite. Prize amounts vary by category: the highest sums are in the upper classes, such as categories 1 and 2, while categories 3 to 6 also offer substantial prizes. Every rider therefore genuinely has a chance to win something, regardless of performance level.

A special feature is that places 1 to 10 receive prize money in every category. It is therefore worth giving everything even in the middle of the field. Additional bonuses are available for KOMs (King of the Mountain) and sprint classifications, rewarding individual climbing or sprint sections with cash. This adds tactical interest to every race: strong climbers or sprinters can earn something independently of their overall finishing position.

As a guide, category 1 pays around €2,000 for a race win. Across a full month, up to €12,500 in prize money can be distributed in this class alone. In total, MyWhoosh distributes more than €280,000 monthly to riders worldwide, an impressive sum for a free platform.

Naturally, this prize money adds motivation. Knowing that a strong race can earn both recognition and some money makes you ride with even more passion. It is not just about raw watts, however: fairness, proper verification and genuine skill also count.

I did not win anything myself, by the way. I was too busy trying not to finish last 😅. But that is exactly the appeal: fight, sweat, laugh and finish proud to have taken part.

Ultimately, it is not only the prize money that counts, but the experience: competing with others worldwide, giving everything and pushing to your limit. And who knows, perhaps next time there will be a prize too.

Conclusion – My Experience with MyWhoosh

My introduction to MyWhoosh was exciting, challenging and hugely motivating. The platform provides a free alternative to other virtual racing platforms, combined with fair competition, realistic training opportunities and a professional racing environment. The Sunday Race Club particularly impressed me: prize money in every category, additional KOM and sprint bonuses and live coverage create a genuine racing feel, right from the living room.

The Power Passport Test may be demanding, but it guarantees fair races and makes manipulation virtually impossible. Once you have completed it successfully, you enter races confidently and experience an incomparable sense of competition and motivation.

Although I have not yet won prize money myself, the experience has been hugely rewarding. I have learned to push my limits, verify my performance and be part of an international community. MyWhoosh uniquely combines training, competition and enjoyment, for beginners and ambitious riders alike.

In short, MyWhoosh is more than a virtual racing simulator. It is a platform that brings real cycling to life, rewards fairness and makes every ride an experience.
