Comparison table: which is the best online bicycle shop?

Anyone regularly buying road cycling parts and accessories online knows the problem: the lowest price means little if delivery times vary, support does not respond or returns become a test of patience. That is why I examined five retailers I have ordered from most frequently: Bike24, R2Bike, Bike-Components, Delta-Bike and Amazon. The assessment is based on what matters in everyday use rather than snapshots or star scores: availability, shipping speed, packaging, returns and withdrawal, refunds and support when problems arise. The result is a practical comparison based on many real orders, with clear strengths, weaknesses and an understandable overall picture.

How to interpret the ratings:

Price level
The 9/10 for Bike24, R2Bike, Bike-Components and Delta-Bike reflects generally market-aligned prices, frequent promotions and fair basket comparisons. Amazon scores lower at 6/10 because prices fluctuate more through the Marketplace, identical items can vary substantially by seller and bargains are often inconsistent.

Shipping (speed & reliability)
Bike24 (10/10) is the benchmark here: fast, predictable and very reliable. R2Bike (10/10) is also excellent. Bike-Components (9/10) remains very strong, with only small deductions for isolated cases or peak periods. Delta-Bike (5/10) is deliberately rated lower because shipping performance can vary more, for example with stock levels or processing. Amazon (7/10) is acceptable but depends heavily on whether Amazon itself or a third party handles sales and shipping.

Range (depth/breadth)
Bike24 (10/10) impresses as an all-rounder with a very broad and deep cycling range. Amazon (10/10) scores through its enormous overall selection, although specialist depth and suitability vary by product category and seller. R2Bike, Bike-Components and Delta-Bike (each 9/10) are very strong in their core ranges, with small deductions for unusual niches or specialist parts.

Returns/withdrawal (period & process)
The return period plays a major role here: Bike-Components is extremely generous with 100 days (10/10). Bike24 offers 30 days and therefore exceeds the standard (8/10). R2Bike, Delta-Bike and Amazon offer 14 days (each 7/10), the usual withdrawal period, but less convenient when fitting or testing parts later.

Support/service
Bike24 and R2Bike (each 10/10) offer the strongest overall packages here: easy to reach, solution-focused and knowledgeable. Bike-Components (7/10) is solid, but overall less hands-on than the top performers. Delta-Bike (9/10) is very good, usually offering strong expertise and reliable answers. Amazon (4/10) is rated considerably lower because third-party support is inconsistent and responsibility between Amazon and the seller does not always seem clear when problems arise.

Verdict
Bike24 is the best all-round package in this overview: very competitive pricing, especially with the price guarantee offered on many products, excellent shipping, an extensive range and very good support combine to deliver the highest overall score.

The differences are often smaller than expected. However, I also had my best experiences with Bike24 during this test, particularly with delivery speed, while prices were consistently very competitive. I also want to highlight R2Bike positively: in my experience, it is almost level with Bike24 in reliability and the overall package.

The gap to the others is not huge, however. All shops generally deliver decent results, with occasional exceptions that mainly affected delivery times for me. Personally, I am surprised by some poor Bike-Components ratings on Trustedshops.de; these do not reflect my orders so far.

What makes the best online bicycle shop?

When someone searches for the best online bicycle shops, they rarely mean only cheap prices. In practice, these points matter:

  • Delivery speed & reliability (same-day dispatch versus waiting for stock)
  • Price level, particularly for wear items and popular road cycling components
  • Range depth: can I find specialist parts, sizes, spares and unusual items?
  • Returns & withdrawal (deadlines, process, costs and refund speed)
  • Support quality (responses, expertise and goodwill)
  • Payment methods (PayPal/credit card/Klarna/Amazon Pay, etc.)

My experience with Bike24

Bike24 has become something of a default shop for me. If I need something quickly or do not want to experiment, I often look there first, particularly because its combination of speed and reliability is so consistent.

One example is the Hammerhead Karoo 3, which I ordered on 04.04.2025 at around 10:00 in the morning. It was dispatched the same day and arrived with DHL the next day. A handlebar extension followed a similar pattern: ordered in the morning, dispatched that day. This is what makes planning possible in everyday cycling: order, fit and ride without long waits.

A brief real-life example

I had just one goal: getting the new Lupine SL Grano in time for the following weekend. I therefore ordered from Delta-Bike first on 07.02.2026 because it was simply cheaper and delivery was listed as 1–4 days. Initially everything looked good, until an email arrived on 11.02.2026 announcing a delay (see Delta-Bike below). It was clear that timing would be tight.

When it became apparent that the light would not arrive in time, I cancelled on 16.02.2026. Unfortunately, I received no response with an apology or similar. However, the PayPal refund was credited the next day.

That same evening, I ordered from Bike24 instead (16.02.). The parcel was dispatched on 17.02. and the light arrived on 18.02., just in time. Best of all, Bike24's price guarantee ultimately made it cheaper than Delta-Bike. Support processed the price guarantee within one day. Excellent!

Bike24 Lupine SL Grano order

Pros
  • Very fast & consistent shipping
Often same-day dispatch, frequently delivered the next day.
  • Strong pricing
Among the leaders in many comparisons.
  • Huge range & good availability
Niche products and standards are often in stock too.
Cons
  • Individual deals sometimes cheaper elsewhere
    Particularly clearance stock and promotions.

Bike24 frequently leads my price comparisons, often as the cheapest retailer. Naturally, other shops have exceptions and promotions, but Bike24 is a strong baseline. Its range is huge too: Bike24 lists more than 80,000 products and over 800 brands. In practice, I almost always find what I need, including niche items and specialist standards.

Returns are clearly explained too: Bike24 offers a 30-day withdrawal period with a clear process of obtaining a return slip, packing and sending back. For freight items, customer service should arrange collection, important because large items cannot always use normal parcel processes. Support and procedures seem structured overall, with payment options including credit card, PayPal, Klarna and Amazon Pay. Overall, Bike24 is the shop where price, speed and availability work together most reliably for me.

My experience with R2-Bike

My experience with R2Bike has been particularly positive for performance-focused parts and shoes. My Shimano S-Phyre RC 903 order was dispatched with DHL the next working day, exactly as you would hope. R2Bike advertises over 50,000 items, more than enough for most needs. Returns are possible within 14 days, making it less generous than Bike24 and Bike-Components.

R2Bike shipping
Pros
  • Reliable shipping
Very punctual in my experience, with next-working-day dispatch.
  • Strong for performance products
A good alternative for shoes and high-end parts.
  • Customer-friendly returns
Clear rules + return label within the withdrawal period.
Cons
  • Range not quite as extensive as the largest shops
Sometimes less choice in specialist niches.

A 30-day return policy is also advertised, making the overall offering very customer-friendly. Payment options are extensive, including invoice, PayPal, Klarna, Amazon Pay and credit card. Reviews are also frequently positive, particularly about shipping and service. For me, R2Bike is a strong alternative when its price and availability compare well.

My experience with Delta-Bike

Delta-Bike often offers some of the most attractive pricing in my experience, frequently with the best prices, particularly for performance-focused premium products. If price and availability match, it is often a very good deal. The catch is that my delivery reliability experiences are more mixed.

Delta-Bike delivery delayed

Some orders go exactly as expected: a Specialized Evade 3 helmet was dispatched the next working day, as was Castelli clothing. However, I have also had significant exceptions: the Tacx Neo 2T, listed as 1–4 working days, was ordered on 16.09.2025 and delivered on 01.10.2025, a wait of 15 calendar days. The Lupine SL Grano bike light ordered on 07.02.2026 had still not been dispatched on 14.02.2026 and was finally cancelled on 16.2.2026. At least the money was refunded quickly through PayPal the next day.

Pros
  • Very strong pricing
  • Good support
    I received responses reliably.
  • Performance-focused range
Helmets, clothing and trainers often readily available.
Cons
  • Delivery times vary
    I experienced several exceptions.

Delta-Bike itself states that delivery times can vary substantially by shipping method, which is plausible for bulky or large items. Nevertheless, I would like more transparent status information for products that appear available quickly. Positively, support was easy for me to reach, and returns are clearly regulated: 14-day withdrawal, return shipping usually paid by the customer and free size exchanges. Online feedback shows the same picture: many positive comments, but recurring criticism of inconsistent delivery times. Verdict: strong prices, but not always maximum reliability.

My experience with Bike-Components

Bike-Components is my first stop for wear items and spares such as chains, cassettes, brake pads and small parts. My orders have always arrived reliably and neatly packaged. Larger items went well too: a B&W transport case was ordered on 12.07. and dispatched on 14.07., perfectly acceptable for such a bulky product.

Bike-Components delivery

Reported range figures vary by source: Bike-Components mentions over 50,000 products, while others cite more. What matters to me is the structure: the shop is large and has excellent filters, particularly for parts where choosing the wrong version can be expensive.

Pros
  • Excellent for spares & wear items
Very good filtering and compatibility information.
  • Reliable in my experience
Neatly packaged and delivered on time.
  • Many payment methods
    Flexible checkout.
Cons
  • Some online opinions more critical of support/returns
My experiences were good; online feedback is mixed.

Return options are strong too: alongside 14 days to withdraw, there is an additional 100-day return policy for unused goods. This is excellent when stocking up on parts or uncertain about specifications. With complete bikes, allow time for assembly before dispatch. Payment methods are broad, including PayPal, credit card, Apple Pay, Amazon Pay and Klarna. For me, Bike-Components is a very solid premium workhorse with customer-friendly processes.

Important context: although my own orders have been positive so far, Trusted Shops has a notably high number of negative reviews and a very low overall rating.

My experience with Amazon

Amazon is not a traditional bicycle shop, but remains practical for accessories, tools, small parts and quick emergency solutions. Its selection is enormous, but quality varies greatly because so many sellers and brands come together. You therefore need to filter more carefully, check sellers and assess reviews more thoroughly than with specialist shops.

Pros
  • Extremely large selection
Ideal for tools, small parts and emergency accessories.
  • Prime convenience
    Often fast and straightforward.
Cons
  • Not a specialist bicycle shop
Quality and compatibility depend heavily on the seller.
  • Often more expensive for branded parts
Specialist shops frequently offer better prices.

Prime is convenient and often fast, but not automatically quicker than specialist shops when their item is in stock. Returns are usually straightforward, although periods vary by category. In my view, Amazon is often more expensive for branded cycling products, with exceptions for offers or generic products. For high-end parts, I generally prefer specialist shops because of pricing, fit and compatibility, and less research effort when buying.

Verdict

Ultimately, it is quite clear to me what matters in the best online bicycle shops: no single perfect retailer decides everything, but the combination of price, availability, shipping speed and reliable processes, precisely when a part is needed rather than three weeks later. Anyone riding regularly, working on bikes or making last-minute improvements before an event quickly realises that a shop is only as good as its everyday performance.

Bike24 therefore remains my most consistent default option and the best online bicycle shop in this comparison. This is because Bike24 has delivered for me, quite literally, rather than because the competition is weak. When speed, stock and price need to align, it feels the safest choice. I see R2Bike alongside it as an extremely strong alternative, particularly for performance-focused products and smooth processing with customer-friendly returns.

Delta-Bike scores mainly through price and a performance-focused range, but my orders have shown too much shipping variation to label it blindly as always reliable. Bike-Components remains very attractive for parts and wear components because its range and shop structure are strong and my personal ordering experiences were good, while its more mixed online reputation should be kept in mind. Amazon remains more of a practical extra for small parts and convenience, but in my view is not the best specialist bicycle shop because quality, advice and comparability depend heavily on the seller.

If you are looking for the best online bicycle shops, I would summarise it this way: Bike24 is my most reliable foundation, R2Bike the obvious strong competitor, Delta-Bike a price-focused option with delivery-time risk, Bike-Components a good parts specialist with somewhat polarised reviews, and Amazon the emergency or convenience solution. That is why checking across shops by product category is worthwhile as a pragmatic strategy rather than simply following a ranking: buy where price and process currently fit best.
