Detailed comparison
▣ Display & Operation
The ROAM 3 has a 2.8-inch TFT touchscreen with 320 × 480 pixels and six additional physical buttons. The BOLT 3 is operated entirely through six buttons and uses a smaller 2.3-inch display with 240 × 360 pixels. The ROAM is more convenient for maps and direct input; in rain and races, the BOLT's button-only controls remain particularly predictable.
▱ Battery life & Storage
Wahoo specifies up to 25 hours of battery life and 64 GB storage for the ROAM 3. The BOLT 3 reaches up to 20 hours and has 32 GB. For normal training rides and day trips, the BOLT is usually easily sufficient, while the ROAM offers more reserve for very long stages and extensive maps.
⌖ Navigation & Maps
Both models support dual-band GPS, free worldwide maps, turn-by-turn navigation, rerouting and synchronisation with Komoot, Strava, RideWithGPS and other services. In practice, the ROAM 3 benefits from its larger map area, touch gestures and the ability to select destinations directly on the device map. On the BOLT, more complex destination input is partly handled through the Wahoo app.
♙ Training & Sensors
ANT+, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, structured workouts, Strava Live Segments, Summit climbing features and connections to power meters, heart rate sensors, radar and smart trainers are very similar on both models. The cheaper BOLT 3 therefore has hardly any functional disadvantage for conventional road cycling training.
🔊 Speaker & Device control
Only the ROAM 3 has a speaker for audible navigation guidance and a digital bell. Direct interaction with maps and connected devices is also more convenient. The BOLT 3 limits audible alerts to beeps and focuses more on a compact, minimalist control concept.
€ Value for money
The official price difference is around 120 euros. If you do not need a touchscreen, speaker or additional battery reserve, the BOLT 3 offers better value for money. The ROAM 3's extra cost mainly pays for display size, convenience, storage and suitability for long distances.
